Christy Hopkins//Artist Statement

Christy is a second generation self-taught artist, coming from a long line of creatives in design, entertainment, the arts and music. 

She paints intuitively. Each painting becomes alive during her process of mark-making and layer creation. Then she finds the story and builds it out. Layer after layer, she builds her work until the composition speaks in an array of movement, vibrant color and personal expression. 

In her studio there’s always music. Often her work is gestural to a beat or lyric. Always present in the moment. Music is a huge component her creative process.

As she builds a painting, it’s crucial for Christy to recognize that exact time where she knows intuitively which way to go, to release control and let the process guide. That is when the painting and Christy become connected. 

Christy’s art was featured in Vogue Living’s March 2024 edition. As well as a feature credit in Luxe Magazine in 2025. Her work  also caught the eye of renowned New York Magazine Art Critic, Jerry Saltz.  Every few months Jerry will visit her Instagram page and delights with a “like” on one of her paintings.  

Christy was commissioned by Shibuya HiFi to build a custom install featured on CBS Morning News in June of 2026. She was also approached by the chain Earls Restaurant to honor their beloved chef who passed, in Bellevue, WA. Christy’s art was also featured on Netflix “Selling Sunset” during her group show “L’Esthétique” at Mash Gallery in 2025.

Christy was also featured in ArtFOLIO2021, “One of the World’s Most Exciting Artists” collection. This is a curated publication that has a collection of the best in abstract and contemporary work as decided on by a jury of professional artists, museum curators, gallery owners, art consultants & collectors.
